Two sides to genius

List A: John Mc Enroe, Diego Maradona, Brian Lara, Shane Warne, Zinedine Zidane, Gary Kasparov
List B: Pete Sampras, Rahul Dravid, Vishwanathan Anand, Michael Schumacher, Sachin tendulkar

Genius has two sides to it. And both are equally marvellous.
There is the refined genius which follows rules, adheres to systems and is the ideal role model. Then there is the maverick who in some ways is unpredictable, bohemian and brash but is an eqully good master as his saner counterpart.

The root cause of how a genius turns out is probably a function of genetics and social conditioning both. Disturbed childhoods, trumatic experiences and a host of other factors might move a conventional genius into being a maverick.

Totally get your point, Ajith. May I also venture into guessing that you aren't a big Formula 1 fan?? Coz anyone who has followed Schumi's career would testify that a greater 'gamesman' ('cheat' - for his haters) never plied his wares!! :)

Plane Truths II

Continuing my series of what happens to me in relation to airplanes, I have a gem to share. The wrestle of the arm rest can be quite irritating especially when both adversaries want it equally badly. The war of course is lost right at the beginning if one of the adversaries has an arm that's armrest size! My Chennai to Mumbai flight was spent in half a seat, with me folded up around an imaginary vertical axis, actually measuring kilometers to Mumbai and counting down time. I thought I was lucky to get a window seat, my luck ended the moment the middle seat next to me and half of my seat got occupied by a gargantuan who was impersonating a human being. Arm rest was the first casualty, I gave it up in the first 5 secs; my midriff also was being molested constantly by the elbow of the beast.
